A very knowledgeable and curteous gentleman emailed and asked about the clutch. He said that on the larger Cub Cadets (Series 5000 and 6000 Tractors) that the clutches could be very touchy. He wanted to know if then the PTO is engaged if there was a "clicking sound." He said that if the plates weren't exactly aligned then the clutch wouldn't engage. It is hard for me to determine this because with the tractor running, you want to be right where the clutch is located.
And, I went back over to the mechanic who diagnosed the issue before. He told me that he agreed with the other gentleman 100%. He said, "I can't believe that with just 105 hours on the tractor that the clutch is bad." He is older, has replaced knees, and just can't tear a tractor apart to be able to adjust a clutch. He had checked all the electrical components back from the battery, starter, relays, and PTO switch.
So, if you are interested, I simply think you need to come and look at the tractor personally. I am NOT a mechanic, and I don't pretend to be. I can't work on the tractor. That is for someone who knows what they are doing. A tractor this size equipped as it is today would be 20K. If you are a good mechanic you know far more about this kind of issue than I ever will.
AGAIN, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED YOU HAVE TO SEE THE TRACTOR.

For sale is an excellent Cub Cadet Compact Tractor Model 6284.
It is a "Tine Capsule." It has only 105 hours on the engine. It has a 60" deck and the optional sunvisor.
I have owned it since new. I have "saved" and "babied it. A year ago I spent $1400 for a complete servicing, fluids changed, filters, seals, assorted parts, etc. See note below:
PLEASE NOTE: In April of 2024 the tractor was completely gone through with all new filters, fittings, lubricants, and seals. Everything was attended to. The cost of this service was over $1400. I cut with the mower twice and then the PTO clutch wouldn't engage. I had a mechanic look at the tractor, and he (after a thorough inspection) concluded the the PTO Clutch needed replacing.
However, it does need a PTO Clutch. I can't work on it. I don't have a trailer. I had an excellent mechanic look at it, and he spent three days tracing all the wires, connections, relays, etc. on the tractor. I trust his judgement on what it needs. As I said, Barris has been in business for years, since they first made the Cub Cadet in 1961. They said they could work on it.
If you desire any more information on it, just give me a call or email me.
Barris Cub Cadet in West Middlesex, Pa. has been a Cub Cadet Dealer since 1961. They can work on it, or, if you can get the part, and are a mechanic, then you could do the work.
I have pictures of the 3-Point Hitch bars included. They were never used.
