The Grand River Wildlife Area is over 7600 acres of wilderness and is known to be one of the few legitimately wild areas left in Ohio. The ODNR actually recommends that individuals not travel into this area unless they are skilled outdoorsman and trained in survival. This quote is from their pamphlet description:
"This portion of the Grand River valley is one of the largest areas of wilderness remaining in heavily populated northeast Ohio, and probably the only public hunting area in the vicinity where even the experienced outdoorsman should take precautions against becoming lost."
The area also has a plethora of wildlife including bear, coyote, bobcat, Mississauga rattlesnake, snowshoe hare, river otters and of course deer, rabbit, turkey, upland game, water fowl, and so on. The area has plentiful fishing as well.
In total there are about 20,000 acres of hunting, fishing, shooting ranges, dog training, and recreation land.
It is all accessible by simply stepping outside the door of the cabin. These three wildlife areas surround this property.
The Mesopotamia Wildlife Area is attached to the Grand River Wildlife Area. It is essentially an extension of the area.
The Mosquito Lake Nature Preserve needs no introduction. It is a popular boating, fishing, camping, ect area.
